Advocating against any form of Gender-based Violence is never easy but the work and efforts needs everyone to be willing to join the collective efforts one way or another. The National Women’s Commission congratulates Ms International Belize 2019, Selena Urias in her openness to use her platform to advocate against one of the most prominent forms of GBV-Domestic Violence, her winning of the Domestic Violence Purple and Orange Ribbon Awards among more than 80 delegates vying for the Miss International Crown. The discourse surrounding beauty pageants for the most part has not been positive, but these platforms afford an opportunity to highlight themes and issues that in the past were not even discussed. Ms Arias has chosen to highlight Domestic Violence and her winning of the Purple and Orange Ribbon Award can hopefully bring more awareness the roll everyone can play in advocating for Change.
Selena Urias is now the Ambassador to the Organization of Miss International and all 82 Candidates to Campaign Against Violence against Women and Children in the world. This award is highly respected as she now promotes awareness for the rest of her reign globally. She carries the Purple and Orange Ribbon during all her competition and thereafter. We congratulate and applaud her efforts in using Ms. International Belize platform to bring message advocating the end to Domestic Violence.
