12,000 descended on the Fort George Memorial Park on March 6, 2014, three days ahead of International Women’s Day for a first of its kind national Women’s Rally dubbed 20,000 STRONG-Imagine a Belize Without Women!
The women, from all walks of life including a huge police/military contingent assembled at the Memorial Park and marched to the stadium for a rally with stirring speeches by women in politics, business and the teaching profession.
The brainchild of Kim Simplis Barrow, Special Envoy for Women and Children, the historic event was organized by the National Women’s Commission (NWC), and the Women’s Department with support from the Ministries of Human Development and Education.
Plans are underway for 20,000 STRONG in 2016.
